Seasonal Scholarship Program

*Essay Topic Summer 2024

Urban areas can have a significant impact on the environment. Common ecological problems found in these densely populated areas are: water pollutions, heat island effect, habitat loss, air pollution, invasive species, and soil degradation.

Please identify 3 ways urban residents can reduce their ecological footprint through practices in their own backyard.

Extra points are awarded for writing in a 3.5 essay format.

Eligibility

Applicant must be a valid resident of Fayette County, KY/ “permanent” resident(students living in Fayette County *only* to attend school ARE NOT ELIGIBLE); must bea “rising senior” (entering senior year of High School) or 2024 High School graduate. Student should have the sincere intention to pursue a college major in agriculture, natural resources, environmental science, or related discipline; must possess a cumulative GPA of 2.7or higher.

To Apply

Submit the following materials to Support@kyfccd.com by September 12th, 2024.

  • Completed application (include a separate page for clubs, jobs, etc.)

  • A copy of your most recent transcript stating your school, major (if applicable), and GPA (unofficial is okay)

  • Minimum of 500 word essay on the assigned topic*; essay should be written in 3.5 essay format

  • A copy of your driver's license showing your Fayette County residency (those without a license are still encouraged to apply - please contact our office about submitting an alternate proof of residency)

This program is offered by FCCD to fund a one-time scholarship payment of $2,000.00.  

Two $1,000 awards for second and third place will also be granted .
Students who have received the district scholarship are eligible to apply, however, scoring rubrics give advantage to first-time applicants.
